Description

Elegant tree, originating in Central America, much cultivated in Minas Gerais. Stem slightly erect, up to 20 m high, having the upper extremity of branches and yellowish shoots, hairs or almost glabrous.

Leaves alternate, simple, petiolate, polymorphous, but usually lanceolate, acuminate, acute, peninérveas, oriaceae, yellow pubescent on the upper page, while young, glabrous and rarely pubescent on the lower page, when adult. Flowers pale or white greenish, very small, with persistent perianth, arranged in corymbos.
Used Parts: Leaves, seeds, fruits, barks or shoots. Pharmaceutical Forms Decoct, infusion, oil, extract-fluid, syrup, tincture or powder. Employment The essential oil has antibacterial activity against pseudomonas and staphylococci. The organic extracts of the seeds have activity against Escherichia coli, Sarcina lutea and Staphylococcus aureus.
