comptoni (Gray, 1847); Victoria: Portland; Port Phillip, Western Port. This species usually has three or four uninterrupted dorsal bands, the central two being the most prominent, and the rear one least distinct. In some live specimens the deep brown of the top layer of the shell conceals the bands, but they show readily as soon as the shell becomes worn or faded. The bands are rarely more than one millimetre wide, and usually remain separate from each other over the whole width of the shell. The fossular teeth are smaller than those of angustata, and always exhibit a depression half-way down; the depression is deepest in front, and tapers up so that it is shallow where it meets the columellar sulcus. The lateral spots are usually smaller than those of angustata, but more numerous than those of piperita. Cypraea (Notocypraea) trenberthi Trenberth, 1961, is a synonym, see Schilder, Cowry 1 (2), 1961, p. 4.
