Description

Shell. Much as in clathrus but much more delicate, thin and glossy. The spire (apical angle 30-35°) is straight-sided, composed of about 11-12 whorls which meet at deep sutures. They bear 18-22 costae per whorl, which are thin, vertical lamellae not curling up the spire; they hardly increase in height or breadth as they near the adapical suture and make only a slight contact with the corresponding ridge on the whorl above. Protoconch as in clathrus but usually lost.
Aperture. The basal spout is slight. In the columellar region the inner lip is out-turned and obscures much of the fold formed by the converging abapical ends of up to 12 costae.
Colour. White, with a yellow stain on the columella.
Size. 12x4 mm. Last whorl = 40-42% of total shell height; aperture = 25% total shell height.
Animal. Like clathrus.
Colour. White.

Distribution

Geographical distribution. From the Western Mediterranean north to Norway and the Kattegat.
Habitat. As for other species; 30-100 m deep.
