Habitat: it was collected in remarkable depths, in a sandy-muddy habitat, in the presence of Brachiopoda Gryphus vitreus too. Distribution: our discoveries in the Levant Sea enlarge this species distribution in the Mediterranean.
Notes: shell brittle, globose, inequilateral, inequivalve. subquadrangular in outline. Surface bright and semitransparent, with fine growth striae more evident near umbo. Posterior margin short, a little bit undulating, anterior margin more squared, umbo protuberant, ventral margin roundish in form, dorsal margin straight. It is present one cardinal tooth in the right valve, the lunule occupies about half of the posterior side: it is deep and broad by two folds. Internal ligament, located along the upper dorsal margin, occupies one third of the lunule length. Muscle and pallial scars evident in the fresh specimens only. Dirty white in colour. Our imaged shells are rosy in colour owing to the liquid of conservation. This species seems it corresponds to Axinus intermedius Monterosato, 1880 nomen nudum, found in depth in Palermo (Sicily - Italy).
It is recognizable from its similar one T (Axinulus) croulinensis (Jeffreys, 1847) since this last one is more roundish in outline and it has an anterior margin non-undulating. T eumyaria (Sars M., 1870) is mainly recognizable due to its outline more roundish, to the umbo more prominent and to the muscle scars more thickened and straight. The adult specimens average measures are around 2 mm in diametre.
