Shell solid , roundish in form, equivalve, inequilateral, with fiat valves furrowed by concentric strong lamellae shaping a set of dentiform spines laterally in the anterior area. The posterior dorsal margin is slightly arched. This characteristic can be noted even in the juvenile specimens with a less roundish aspect but having already got some concentric lamellae, typical ones for this species. The average measures of the Mediterranean specimens are abt. one centimetre, no more, but in the Atlantic there were found specimens up to 25 mm in diametre. Internal margin of the valves smooth. White-greyish or uniform ivory in colour.
