Carex - sedge

Carex L. - sedge

* Image is also available in higher resolution: 59744.jpg (1200x1600 - 253 kb).

Determination note

This is a sedge, but it is not Carex hirta. Carex hirta has 2 to 3 male spikes, which are hairy. This sedge appears to have one (or possibly sometimes two?) male spikes. These look glabrous. The female spikes are not green or yellowish green as they should be, but greenish black. And they are not hairy either. And, by the way, this does not look like Carex caryophyllea either, because the peduncles of the female spikes should be much shorter (almost none!) for this species and the lowest spikes should not be so distant.
