Popis

Shell between 15 and 25 mm, somewhat heavy, solid, and circular in outline. Spire covered by callus. Body whorl sub-triangular, inflated and rounded, about 85% of total height, with both terminals not really produced. Anterior terminal tip slightly protruded, posterior tip slightly indented. Dorsum profile rounded with its highest portion almost on the mid-dorsum, completely covered by ribs - about 12 on average - with a deeply incised, broad sulcus mid-dorsally that bisects the ribs. Ribs forming on both sides of the sulcus fairly large nodules. Dorsal sulcus reaches from anterior to posterior terminal collar. Ventrum slightly convex. Shell periphery thickened, protruded and sharply edged. Aperture fairly broad and straight but curved posteriorly. Labrum slightly rounded, broad, slightly curved, keeled towards its inner margin. Labrum bears on average 15 rather coarse denticles on its inner margin. Siphonal and anal canals follow the shell profile. Columella straight, narrow and tapering steeply inwards. An inner adaxial ridge somewhat developed. Parietal lip almost straight, slightly callused, crossed by on average 13 ribs. Fossula slightly concave and not clearly delimited from the rest of the columella. Inner fossular edge slightly protruded. Shell colour brownish with spotted dorsal ribs and a dark brown patch on mid-dorsum. Ventrum of darker shades with ventral ribs slightly lighter. Columella and fossula pure white.
VARIATIONS
Some shells are more ovate than circular. The shell colour varies in shades of brown. Otherwise the shell morphology is amazingly constant.
