Popis

Shell between 5 and 14 mm, lightweight, solid and ovate. Spire covered by callus. Body whorl sub-triangular, inflated and rounded, about 80% of total height, with both terminals slightly produced. Anterior terminal tip slightly indented, posterior tip si ightly protruded. Dorsum profile roundly elevated, completely covered by coarse ribs - about 10 on average - with a short sulcus mid-dorsally. Dorsal ribs less numerous, often interrupted within the sulcus and/ or sulcus filled with callus and ribs fused together. Ventrum slightly convex with slightly recurved terminals. Aperture narrow over its entire length widened only barely at the fossular section. Aperture straight in its mid-portion but curved posteriorly. Labrum roundly callused, narrow, slightly curved, keeled towards its inner margin. Outer labral margin roundly callused. Labrum bears on its inner margin on average 13 fine denticles. Siphonal and anal canals follow the shell profile. Columella straight, narrow and tapering steeply inwards with a less developed inner adaxial carinal ridge. Parietal lip curved, slightly keeled, crossed by on average 12 ribs. Fossula concave and not clearly delimited from the rest of the columella. Inner fossular edge slightly protruded. Shell colour brownish with ribs, sulcus, columella and fossula whitish. Some shells might have a more circular outline. The shape of the sulcus and the ribs within the sulcus vary considerably. Sometimes the sulcus is completely filled with callus, and the ribs are depressed. In other shells the sulcus is only less developed, and the ribs are interrupted. The ribs may also be thickened and form nodules along both sides of the sulcus. Sometimes the colour of the ribs is whitish brown.
The mantle lobes, and the siphon can vary from translucent orange with whitish dots to orange brown or brown with yellowish dots. L = 7 - 12, W = (74) 76 - 83 (87) % of length, LT = 12 - 14, CT = 11 - 13, RR = 8 - 12; data based on 17 specimens.
