A completely Old World genus, Bolinus includes .two species. B. brandaris from the Mediterranean and B. cornutus from western Africa. The shells of both species are essentially club-shaped, and characterized by numerous spinose varices, a short spire, and an elongate, straight, or slightly recurved canal. Other characters include the well-developed parietal callus and inductura, features not unique to Bolinus.
