It is an intermediate between the parent species Anemone hortensis and Anemone pavonina which is sometimes encountered in the wild where they grow in close proximity to one another. Multipetala and St. Bravo are the mostly widely available cultivars. Annulata Grandiflora, which has scarlet flowers with a distinct white central ring is generally ascribed to this hybrid but may be little more than a selected form of Anemone pavonina.
