Belemnite, an ancestor of modern squid. Lived in the epoch of Mesozoic (Cretaceous and Jurassic). Become extinct the same time as dinosaurs. Name from Greek "belemon" meaning dart or lance. The fossil is remainder of belemnites hard inner shell. Found on beach in Trimingham, North Norfolk, England.
