Malagasy Copal is referred to the ambrosia of
Hymenaea verrucosa Gaertner, 1791 (POINAR 1992; POINAR & BROWN 2002), a perennial tree today still widespread from the Eastern Africa to Asia through the Indian Ocean.
Carbon dating results have demonstrated that Malagasy Copal can be as young as 50 years old (POINAR 1999).
